Department Summary
The mission of the department of Alumni Engagement, as part of the Division of University Advancement, is to foster a lifelong spirit of belonging and pride by connecting alumni and friends to the University of North Texas and each other. The department strives for profound engagement with a community committed to supporting and advancing UNT’s excellence.

Position Overview
The Assistant Director of Alumni Programming will manage the signature programs of the Alumni Relations department including but not limited to: Alumni Awards, Homecoming, Gameday Grille, Athletic Events, and Reunion Programs. This position will lead all programming efforts and for internally planned programs, and support regional alumni networks through consulting on their event efforts. As needed, this position will assist in planning events for regional alumni networks.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and two years of professional experience in marketing, fundraising, event planning, public relations, corporate account sales, or communications; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of the development field.
  • Knowledge of accepted business practices and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cordial, productive, and professional working relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to manage time, personnel, financial, and physical resources effectively.
  • Exceptional communications skills.
  • Ability to master University policies and procedures and apply these in specific situations.
  • Some knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising principles or ability to quickly assimilate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Event Planning, Hospitality Management, or similar field
  • Demonstrated experience in planning large scale alumni engagement events
  • Experience in leading event volunteers
  • Exceptional attention to details and deadlines.
  • Availability to work some evenings and/or weekends.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
  • Demonstrate ability to take responsibility for a diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
  • Strong organization and administrative skills.
  • Strong internet, web and email skills.
  • Strong computer skills, knowledgeable in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or Blackbaud NXT software a plus.

Work Schedule
8 am – 5 pm, some nights and weekends required.

Job Duties

o
Create and implement a strategic, outcome-oriented approach to signature alumni programs. Maintain a data-driven process to evaluate event success.

o
Manage programming efforts related to signature alumni engagement events including the Alumni Awards Ceremony, Homecoming Week, Gameday Grille, Athletic Events, and Reunion Programs.

o
Collaborate with Alumni Engagement staff to successfully implement alumni engagement focused events for regional, affinity, and student alumni networks.

o
Support the Director of Alumni Engagement with new programming initiatives for colleges, departments, and volunteer networks.

o
Prepare event briefings and distribute to division leadership in advance of each program.

o
Manage several programming budgets related to events.

o
Manage and distribute department’s athletic tickets to support engagement and stewardship.
