Job Summary: Under the direction of the County Engineer, you will administer and enforce the County Tree Ordinance for residential and/or commercial development. You will review site development plans for compliance with state and county ordinances regarding land disturbance, trees, buffers, landscapes, and soil erosion control. You will perform enforcement measures when necessary. You will inspect the planting of trees, landscapes, buffers, grading finished lots, and instill water quality best management practices. You will confirm that land disturbance activities meet the Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Ordinance. You will plan and direct tree pruning, removal, and maintenance activities on County-owned properties. You will assist in developing, revising, and updating County ordinances regarding land disturbance, trees, buffers, landscapes and soil erosion control. You will advise engineers, architects, other professionals, and the general public on professional tree care, maintenance, and urban forestry issues. You will perform site inspections for developments before approving final acceptance. Other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture, Forestry, Dendrology, Arboriculture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience in site inspection, code enforcement, landscape design, or tree care is desirable. You must possess or be able to obtain within 6 months the ISA Certified Arborist designation from the Arborist Certification Board of the International Society of Arboriculture and obtain a Level 1B red card for Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspections. You must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
