The Town of Scarborough is seeking applicants for a full time Animal Control Officer. Our current Animal Control Officer is retiring after 23 years of dedicated service. This person should be motivated, able to work independently, and successfully be able to work with community members, members of the Scarborough Police Department.
The Animal Control Officer performs specialized work in the enforcement of Municipal Ordinances and State Laws relative to the regulations and control of domestic animals and wildlife. The Animal Control position is an unsworn civilian position.
Requirements: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and hold an active driver’s license. Preference will be given to applicants that have obtained certification requirements for Animal Control Officer established by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. Applicants that do not have these certifications will be required to obtain these requirements within a reasonable time, per Maine Criminal Justice Academy guidelines. Other required skills and abilities include personal computer skills, ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
