ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Meets and instructs grade 8-12 students during assigned class time and in the locations and designated.
  • Teaches to pupils in a classroom, using the course of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Teaching experience in an alternative learning setting preferred
  • Ability to support, co-teach, and collaborate with staff members to provide a supportive environment for our students.
  • Develop and provide career awareness, readiness, and exploration opportunities (job shadows, internships, informational interviews) directly to individual students as needed.
  • Develop community employment-focused learning opportunities based on identified student interests.
  • Work collaboratively with our school to careers counselor and our guidance department to develop unique learning opportunities for our ALP Students.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Massachusetts teacher licensure in one of the following fields
  • Math, English, Science or Social Studies
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
