Position Description

The Advancing Careers in Trades program is a collaboration of Meta, Fortis Construction, UNM Valencia. Together we aim to give New Mexico adults an alternative method to entry into the building industry. We are accepting up to 15 participants that will be part of an eight week earn while you learn program.


Description

The Advancing Careers in Trades Program is a path for a person to join the ranks of the construction industry. This program is designed for an individual to gain and maintain employment and education in construction. It permits the participant to utilize an accelerated training method to advance their career and still be employed within the industry.

This program is also designed to assist those who have not determined a clear path in the industry but are still looking for an entry point. The program, once completed successfully, will end in full-time employment. The program is NOT a guarantee of acceptance into an apprenticeship, it is up to you to take advantage of this program and gain the skills and knowledge you need to be successful. Union contractors participating in the areas of electrical, carpentry, sheet metal, plumbing, and general laborer will be excepting applicants into this program.

The Program: (June 2023– August 2023)

  • 160 Classroom hours in basic construction education.
  • Three nationally recognized certifications.
  • Hourly wage paid during classroom education.
  • On-the-Job training match with an employer to lead to employment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to preform essential functions of this program. While preforming the duties of the program, the participant is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. With limited lifting up to 50lbs.

Program requirements:

  • Proof of High School Graduation or GED Certificate.
  • Attendance Monday through Friday 7am – 3pm.
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs.
  • Previous work or volunteer experience.
  • Acceptance to work for one of committed employers.

Additional Details

  • Program occurs at our Los Lunas Data Center Site in Valencia County New Mexico
  • Services provided to eliminate barriers to employment
  • All personal protective gear and tools will be provided
