Advanced Professional Development Practitioner - Polk State Faculty Externship

The Advanced Professional Development Practitioner serves as the regional and/or system lead for education and professional development programs. Partners with key stakeholders to achieve organizational goals, including the identification and assessment of needs. Develops and facilitates implementation of the recommended program. Manages and monitors program effectiveness via service and outcome measures. Calculates return on investment, maintaining financial responsibility. Investigates and pursues outside resources for program funding. Serves as a resource and developer to the Professional Development Practitioner. Develops curriculum and trains others to facilitate the delivery of content. Acts as a champion for scientific inquiry using evidence based practice and research for clinical and professional development practice change. Follows the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) Scope and Standards of Practice. ANCC certification preferred.

The paid Externship is made available annually from a pool of full-time faculty at Polk State College Department of Nursing. During the Externship, participants are employed by BayCare and do not represent PSC. The Faculty Externs will be hired as a Nursing Professional Development Practitioner (PRN) role and will report directly to the Director, Development & Practice – Polk Region. The program will begin June 2023. The Externship will be conducted over the summer months, following the Spring term and before the Fall term. The length of the externship is a maximum of 80 hours. The Faculty Extern can design the length of the shift worked (e.g., 4-8 hours), based on the learning objective. The number of Faculty Extern slots is established annually by BayCare, and finalists are selected based on a competitive process.

A virtual information session will be offered April 26, 2023 to inform interested Polk State College Faculty of the Externship opportunity. Potential Nurse Faculty Externs should complete an application and submit it to the Dean for review and approval by May 12, 2023, for the summer 2023 cohort.

A committee will conduct a blind review of each application and select those whose Learning Goals and Objectives align with BayCare resources. All candidates will be notified by BayCare of the outcome of the review by May 26, 2023. If not selected, candidates may reapply the following summer. Chosen candidates will be ineligible to reapply for two years.
