Description:

To function independently under the guidance of Occupational Health medical director specializing in health assessments of employees for purposes of pre-employment clearances. Will also be responsible for the management and treatment of injuries sustained in the workplace.

The APP will provide professional medical care services:

  • In accordance with the privileges/scope of practice granted by the medical staff at the Trinity hospital facility(ies) where the Physician holds privileges.
  • In accordance with all medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and/or policies regarding APPs in effect at the service site.
  • As permitted by and in accordance with the scope of practice and the education, training, and experience of the APP
  • Independently with collaboration with the Physician, such that the APP shall communicate with and seek guidance from the Physician on a regular basis via telecommunication or email regarding medical treatment decision making
  • Will enter into a written delegation agreement with supervising physician to include prescribing controlled substances.
  • Expected travel between two locations or maintain availability and competency with telemedicine program to ensure all contracted sites’ patient care needs are being met.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works under the direction of and in collaboration with the physician Medical Director of Employee Health Services.
  • Under the supervision of a physician manages and provides care for injured employees.
  • Assesses new hire candidate's health status by obtaining a complete health history and appropriate physical examination during pre-employment screening process.
  • Under the direction of the medical director diagnoses medical conditions and plans and orders consultations, therapies and interventions. These include, but are not limited to, medications, laboratory/diagnostic tests, physical/occupational therapy and referrals for specialty care and treatments.
  • Provides evaluation, orders laboratory/diagnostic tests, diagnoses medical conditions, renders treatment, write prescriptions, makes referrals for physical/occupational therapy, and/or seeks specialist evaluation of work-related conditions experienced by employees, managing their on-going care as needed.
  • Evaluates and analyzes the employee’s response to therapeutic interventions and alters the plan of care as needed. Consults with collaborating physician and refers for physician evaluation appropriately.
  • Consults with physician Medical Director of Employee Health Services and/or refers employees for physician evaluation appropriately as needed.
  • Return to work evaluations. Specifies necessary work restrictions when work-related conditions or personal medical conditions would prevent an employee from safely performing the essential functions of their job duties.
  • Documents all assessment data, prescriptions, and referrals in the Employee Health record.
  • Promotes health and well-being to colleagues.
  • Provides information, guidance, education, and leadership regarding occupational health issues to the Employee Health Services and Human Resources team.
  • Fitness for Duty evaluations.
  • Observes current business practices related to the handling of hazardous materials or maintaining health and safety standards. Makes recommendations to improve the safety of the workplace and standard operating procedures. Actively seeks opportunities for continued education and professional growth necessary to maintain licensure and further develop expertise in occupational health.
  • Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health.
  • Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision and Values of SJMH.
  • Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, ensuring personal safety and safety of coworkers. Reports all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
