Rappahannock Community College ( RCC ) is a two-campus institution serving a rural and diverse 12-county area in the Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, whose mission is to provide inclusive access to exceptional training and educational opportunities meeting the community’s needs and preparing individuals for success as learners, employees, and citizens. Reporting to the Controller the Accountant will assist in maintaining records of fiscal activity and budgetary controls, ledgers, and/or other related transactions in either direct or indirect support of accountants and administrators. The Accountant will process routine financial fund transactions, reconcile financial records and analyze general financial data as directed. Will also assist in the development, coordination and maintenance of budgetary information as assigned. Typical duties may include proofing and posting transactions to journals and ledgers, preparing trial balances, reconciling accounts, making routine account adjustments, budget to actual account analysis, and preparing fiscal summaries and other reports.
The Gloucester County location of the service region is within commuting distance to York County, New Kent County, and other surrounding cities and urban area.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.



KSA's/Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field in accounting or finance, or the equivalent in education or training plus considerable work experience in accounting. Possess knowledge of fund accounting, including state and federal rules, regulations, processes, and procedures. Knowledge of proper internal control processes and procedures and acceptable general financial accounting practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PeopleSoft applications or similar software.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education or state experience including grants administration and reporting. Experience with AIS, Cardinal. Knowledge of the Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP).
