POSITION: IEP SPECIALIST/PREK SPECIAL NEEDS ITINERANT TEACHER (COUNTYWIDE)
EMPLOYMENT TERM: 210 days
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Programs
SALARY: Professional/Teacher Salary Scale
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Special Education with certification in Multi/CAT, Preschool Special Needs and Autism, Severe-Profound.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience providing education and services to children on IEP’s ages 3-21 with a variety of special needs in school, home and community settings including Head Start, day care programs, and preschools.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide assistance to special and regular education teachers as they collaborate to meet the needs of special education students in all settings.
- Monitor special education timelines and ensure meetings are held within the due date.
- Administer achievement evaluations, write reports identifying results, and explain information from the evaluation(s) at eligibility meetings.
- Assist in determining student’s eligibility for special education based on POLICY 2419 requirements.
- Assist with monitoring special education suspensions and chair manifestation determination meetings as required.
- Collect IEP data as needed to determine student service needs.
- Provide staff development training for teachers on IEP creation and implementation.
- Maintain SafetyCare trainer certification and assist with countywide SafetyCare specialist trainings.
- Work closely with new teachers and teachers on permit in completing special education paperwork.
- Monitor community preschool sites for upholding curriculum and IEP integrity with:
- Creative Curriculum
- POLICY 2525
- POLICY 2419
- IEP Online Program
- Serve as liaison between West Virginia Birth to Three Program and Hancock County Schools:
- Maintain accurate records and ensure that all eligible students are enrolled by their third birthday.
- Complete timely reports as designated by the WVDE.
- Attend all 90 Day Face to Face meetings with incoming 3 year old students with special needs.
- Facilitate all Birth to Three transition, eligibility, and IEP meetings.
- Serve as a liaison between community preschool partners, the child, and the child’s family.
- Attend conferences and trainings in order to comply with WVDE initiatives.
- Participate in continuing education to provide current research-based interventions to other settings, and facilitate countywide.
- Provide direct services to the preschool child as per their IEP
- Facilitate special education enrollment process for preschool students.
- Assist with the transition process for all preschool children entering transition phase into, within, and out of preschool.
- Coordinates and assists with end of year IEP submissions by each special education teacher as part of check-out process.
- Participates with SAT teams as appropriate and necessary.
- Maintains confidentiality of student files and student information as expected through FERPA and HIPAA.
- Proficient with technology (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook mail, WVEIS, Online IEP, etc.)
- All other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Programs.
