The Educational Paraprofessional is a critical position in our school. This person serves students with disabilities to provide the support and services needed for personal, academic, functional, and/or vocational progress. In this position, you may serve in the capacity of a one-on-one aide or a shared aide following the direction of certified staff for providing services within the school, classroom, and community environments.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

The Educational Paraprofessional must:
  • Possess a High School diploma or GED Equivalent. or College diploma
  • Meet the background check requirements for each state's regulations;
  • Successfully pass an initial medical examination and pass a drug screening, which provides evidence that they are free from communicable diseases, including active tuberculosis or conditions which prohibit them from reasonably performing the assigned duties, except as provided for by the ADA.   • Possess a valid, regular (non-probationary) state driver’s license if the individual will be driving either their personal vehicle for on-the-job purposes or any agency vehicles;
  • Possess personal vehicle insurance that meets the minimum expectations/coverage if the employee will be driving their personal vehicle for on-the-job purposes as detailed in the BROADSTEP ACADEMY Transportation Policy.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The Educational Paraprofessional will:
  • Possess a minimum of one (1) year experience working with students meeting the program admissions criteria in an educational setting (preferred);
  • Have demonstrated leadership ability: the ability to integrate the vision of the organization with all supportive services and personnel;
  • Have demonstrated leadership in maintaining high standards of professional behavior for self and staff;
  • Have excellent organizational, problem solving, creative and independent thinking skills;
  • Have demonstrated cultural competency and a commitment to diversity management;
  • Must posses and reflect:
1. An interest in the job and in the company
2. A willingness to be flexible and available for any work assignments during any shift / day / program based upon need as assigned, given appropriate notification
3. Knowledge and support of the agency’s philosophy, policies and procedures;
4. A willingness to learn on the job and expand his/her knowledge;

5. Respect and dignity for our clients and their families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively participates in all appropriate systems and forums to foster communication, and to establish and maintain a culture of Continuous Quality Improvement within and between programs, departments, and disciplines, with structured, organized and approved agenda items, to include, but not limited to: (1) Shift Change Report; (2) Monthly Program-level team meetings; (3) Monthly All Staff meetings; (4) Bi-weekly Classroom meetings; (5) Participation in Weekly Supervision;
  • Actively applies and participates in the implementation of all BROADSTEP ACADEMY and subsidiary policies, procedures, state-specific regulatory requirements, contract stipulations and accreditation standards;
  • Actively participates in one or more subsidiary-level committees according to the respective subsidiary committee policies, as assigned or requested.
