Youth Care Specialist II

Shifts available:

Saturday and Sunday 7 am-7 pm-part-time position.

Sunday-Thursday-2pm-10:30 pm.

Tuesday-Saturday-2 pm-10:30 pm.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 7 pm-7 am overnight, stay awake.

Preferred AA or bachelor's degree with 1-2 years of experience.

Preferred three (3) years of experience without a degree, minimum of a high school degree is required.

Summary/Objective

Provides care, training, and supervision for the children at Trulight Youth Village and

implements assigned portion of treatment plan. Models and teaches social and living skills to children with the goal of building trust, cooperation, self-esteem, self-control, respect for self and respect for others. Guides children in their interactions with others. Performs other duties as assigned and required by the Director of Residential Services. Assists in the development of less qualified staffers.

Identifies need for and safely / effectively implements crisis intervention techniques as trained. These crisis intervention techniques may include physical restraint of aggressive children. The types of aggressive behaviors may include kicking, head-butting, punching, slapping, biting, and spitting on others. The children’s height and weight will vary with their age and may inflict serious injury, including concussion, to others. Injuries may require medical treatment.

Provides input for children's treatment plans, including timely documentation of Progress -Notes, Serious Incident Reports, and Treatment-Plan review summaries.

Provides mentoring / verbal and written feedback to assigned PRN and YCS I staffers.

May be assigned to function as unit supervisor in the absence of the assigned Lead or Supervisor.

Required Education, Experience, and other Job Requirements:

Must hold a high school diploma or its equivalent; must have at least one year of general employment; experience working with children or emotionally disturbed children/adolescents preferred; must be at least 21 years of age; must have a valid, current Texas Driver's License, a good driving record which allows insurance coverage by the Home’s auto insurance policy; have a current TB test or chest x-ray verifying non-active tuberculosis; have current First Aid and CPR certification or obtain shortly after assuming duties; and must be physically able to use authorized Crisis Intervention techniques. Must authorize Helping Hand Home to check employment references and to conduct a background check and drug screening in accordance with requirements of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Must have a minimum of one-year full time paid experience working with children who have serious emotional disturbance.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
