Job DescriptionThe City of Monroe is currently recruiting for a Wasterwater Treatment Plant Operator. This position will perform work in the Operation and Maintenance field of the Monroe Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and pump stations. This position is open until filled.

100.00% - ~ Monitor WWTP and Pump Station operations. Inspect plant processes and equipment for function and proper operation. Use SCADA system for monitoring and troubleshooting. Make adjustments and troubleshoot problems as needed. Record equipment and process data as measured or observed during inspections.
~ Perform routine preventative maintenance on all WWTP and pump station systems. Perform basic repair work to WWTP and PS equipment. Respond to public inquiries in an appropriate manner. Refer certain inquiries to the applicable City Department.
~ Operate a 5 yd dump truck, loader, fork lift, and small truck with trailer. . Ensure safe working conditions by following all Safety Programs and Policy"s.
~ Perform the daily responsibilities of the laboratory to provide results required by the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit, operational data for daily process control measures, potable water coliform testing, storm water analysis, and biosolids testing.
~ Check all bench sheets for content accuracy, fill out daily monitoring report and submit to WWTP Supervisor.
~ Interpret laboratory data and results performed by others and determines appropriate corrective action.
~ Set up and perform laboratory tests common to wastewater treatment plants, including but limited to biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), fecal coliform, pH, temperature, ammonia, and other testing that may be required.

WWTP Operator - ~ Operate and maintain the secondary wastewater treatment plant with limited supervision.
~ Knowledge of equipment, tools and techniques necessary to maintain mechanical equipment, pumps, and perform required duties.
~ Ability to coordinate various activities and projects with changing priorities, coordinate equipment use, schedule repairs and maintain records.
~ Ability to quickly grasp new techniques, remain calm in stressful situations, relate to various personality styles in a calm, professional manner.
~ Knowledge of electrical motor control systems.
~ Operate computers and software applications related to the operation of the WWTP.
~ Perform work with limited supervision.
~ Recognize abnormal conditions during equipment operation, data collection, review of data reports, and report abnormalities.
~ Perform various water quality analyses.
~ Work safely and in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, and with City laws, policies, and standards.Ability to successfully complete various required training classes and obtain certificates necessary for job performance, maintenance and improvement (i.e., flaggers, basic first aid, etc.)
~ Ability to establish and maintain working relationships at various levels.
~ Ability to exercise discretion, tact, courtesy, and patience with difficult internal and external customers.
~ Ability to express oneself effectively in all avenues of communication.
~ Ability to work various shifts, inclusive of weekends, based on business need. Minimum Qualifications
~ High School diploma and/or GED equivalent.
~ Possess a valid Washington State Driver"s License and meet City driving standards.
~ Group II Washington State Wastewater treatment plant operator certification preferred.
~ Prior experience in a sewage treatment plant is required.
~ Must be available for overtime and for weekends and/or occasional holidays.
~ Must be available to work one of three shifts, staffed seven days a week.
~ Must be able to respond to the WWTP plant within 45-minutes when on call.
