The State of New Hampshire, Department of Labor, Division of Workers' Compensation has a full-time vacancy for a Workers' Compensation Assistant II.
SUMMARY: Performs paraprofessional duties associated with the administration of the Workers Compensation and as directed by the Assistant Director of Workers’ Compensation. Provides agency and bureau assistance and performs administrative support functions as needed for assigned Administrators under the Division of Workers’ Compensation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists public and staff in workers’ compensation matters related to self-insurance, third-party administrator’s license and workers’ compensation compliance in various forms, including responding to electronic mail, telephone and written inquiries.
Assists supervisor with planning, developing and coordinating operational policies and procedures; makes recommendations and suggestions to supervisor when updates are necessary.
Compiles and prepares ad hoc reports on worker’s compensation information for use by an Administrator in decision-making.
Attends meetings and provides administrative support in preparing and concluding meetings. Prepares and disseminates agendas, meeting materials and recorded minutes. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff and the general public.
Recommends changes or alternate work methods to improve the flow of work as a result of increased technology use and improvements.
Establishes and maintains a tracking system to control and organize files and report summary data to ensure carriers compliance with the workers’ compensation statute.
Contacts agency personnel to clarify and correct inconsistencies and errors on filed documents or invoices.
Acts as a backup to the Workers’ Compensation Administrative Assistants to assure coverage of administrative duties for the division.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate's degree from a recognized college or technical institute with major study in human services, business administration, financial management or related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three years of experience in customer service, claims handling, dispute resolution or workers’ compensation, with responsibility for providing program information to others. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
License/Certification: None required.

Knowledge of the procedures and practices involved in interviewing. Knowledge of office record keeping and reporting. Knowledge of the regulations pertaining to departmental programs. Some knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration. Ability to gather, assemble, correlate and analyze facts and identify existing or potential problems. Ability to contribute to the development of sound operational procedures. Ability to make sound judgment in appraising situations and making routine decisions. Ability to follow specific instructions in gathering facts, data or resources in organizing required information. Ability to make decisions based upon fact-finding interviews within the parameters of the rules and policies of the agency. Ability to meet with clients and explain programs sponsored by the department or agency in which the position is located. Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
