Essential functions and Responsibilities
EDM Specialist/Wire need to program, set up and operate electrical discharge machines (EDM) involved in the production of components for plastic injection molds.
Skills
EDM Specialists/Wire must be able to read and understand blueprints associated with the work piece to be cut. They must be able to choose size and type of wire and power settings to be the most efficient in the machining process. EDM Specialist/ Wire must monitor the machining process and be able to make adjustments to the settings as needed. They must be able to inspect their work. Other key skills needed include teamwork, communication, organization, creativity and strong math knowledge.
Education
Minimum high school diploma or GED. Post-high school, technical school/apprenticeship preferred.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of work experience in an EDM Wire position required.
Physical Demands
EDM Specialist/ Wire are required to stand for long periods of time, walk, and squat. They will be bending over machines, and use their hands to hold onto parts for positioning during job set up and cleaning/inspection of finished parts. They will be reaching with hands and arms while lifting parts into or out of machine tanks; parts weighing anywhere from less than a pound up to 50 lbs. Occasionally, EDM Specialist/ Wire will be required to slide heavy plates into and out of machines, weighing up to 100 lbs. Vision abilities are required for this job including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Environment
Indoor, clean, climate controlled, somewhat noisy at times, air blasts, machines and vacuum systems. EDM Specialist/ Wire will be using cleaning and degreasing solvents in their work. They will also come in contact with machining coolant and dielectric fluids.
