Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reads engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, or rulers.
  • Prepares all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
  • Sets up, operates, or tends welding machines that join or bond components to fabricate metal products or assemblies.
  • Loads or feeds workpieces into welding machines to join or bond components.
  • Devises or builds fixtures or jigs used to hold parts in place during welding.
  • Welds separately or in combination, using aluminum, stainless steel, or other alloys.
  • Cuts, contours, and bevels metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions as specified by blueprints, layouts, or work orders.
  • Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
  • Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits.
  • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies supervisor.
  • Marks or tags materials with proper job number, piece marks, or other identifying marks as required.
  • Inspects welded joints and conducts tests to ensure welds meet company standards, national code requirements, and customer job specifications.

  • Design Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in welding or related technical field; and 3+ years of relevant welding experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with E-Beam welding and TIG welding is preferred.
  • Experience in basic welding / testing / calibration of pressure transducers and/or load cells is a plus.
