Position Overview
The Weight Room Specialist (WRS) Program Manager assists the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness in programming and administration of the Cardiovascular/Resistance Training (CRT) Areas of the Student Recreation Fitness Center. The Program Manager will work daytime and evening hours Monday through Friday, with some various weekend hours. Extensive knowledge of health, fitness, management, cardiovascular and strength equipment.
Job Description
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Following and enforcing policies and procedures including holding WRS’s accountable
- Communicating policies and procedures including updates to WRS’s
- Supervising and scheduling WRS’s
- Communicating WRS’s ideas and concerns to the Senior Assistant Director of Programs
- Managing personnel including schedule conflicts, covering no shows, and discipline issues
- Assisting with coordination and facilitation of staff meetings, staff trainings, and deep cleaning of machines
- Assisting with risk management
- Utilizing University communication devices-radio
- Utilizing Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), Microsoft Teams, WhenToWork, Conenct2, and Canvas
- Planning and coordinating special events
- Developing new program ideas
- General program troubleshooting
- Interviewing WRS applicants and training new WRS’s
- Evaluating WRS’s
Required Qualifications
- Enrolled in 6 credit hours at KU, 3 credit hours if Federal Work Study and summer employment.
- Excellent communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
- Certified in CPR/AED or become certified within four weeks after being appointed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a WRS.
- Experience using cardiovascular and resistance training equipment including selectorized machines, plate loaded machines and free weights as evidenced by application materials.
- Previous experience working in a recreation center, weight room, health club or gym setting.
- Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health or related major.
- Self-starter, organized, and takes initiative.
- Excellent verbal communication.
