This is an entry level position for high school graduates who have successfully completed the required industry certification at the Lakeland Electric Power/Energy Academy. Positions will be allocated in the utility to prepare future workers where identified need exists and skills and student goals match. Work is evaluated for overall effectiveness and adherence to safe workplace practices.

• Performs basic level skills as required in the designated position.
• Participates in skills training as appropriate.
• Must demonstrate behaviors of commitment, trustworthiness, and excellent customer relations.
• Assists Meter Technicians in the installation, testing, repair and calibration of all types of customer electric metering equipment.
• Assists Meter Technicians in the inspection and testing of instrument transformers as necessary.
• Assists Meter Technicians in the installation of single-phase meters, self-contained three-phase meters, and other types of metering equipment.
• Follows all applicable safety procedures and uses required safety equipment.
• Operates computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, scanner and/or other office equipment.
• Enters data in spreadsheet software for inventory tracking and reporting of meter test results.

• Depending on the position, may be required to sweep floors, use hand tools, mow lawns, organize inventory, file, answer phones, perform housekeeping duties, and other entry level functions.
• Performs related work as required.

• Graduate from Lakeland Electric Power/Energy Academy with required industry certification.
• Recommendation of the Lakeland Electric Power Academy instructor or a Power Academy Job Shadowing Program Mentor.
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities and other competencies necessary for success in the target position may be considered.

• Must maintain City driving privileges/valid Florida driver's license.
• Must maintain a valid contact phone number.
• May be required to attend meetings at locations other than primary work location.
• Position may be designated as Mission Critical by Department Director.
