Salary Range: $76,700.00 $103,600.00 annually

Job Summary:

Provides overall leadership in managing the Union Colony Civic Center, overseeing all performances at the center from working with the contract talent acquisition vendor partner in securing performances to overseeing the ticket office staff and sales, technical operations, and overall theatre management.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree gained through a four-year college/university academic program or specialized technical training of equivalent length.
  • Expertise founded on wide experience in a discipline or field requiring comprehensive understanding of a combination of involved practices, precedents, facts and conditions, or in a broad group of business systems essential in the exercise of managerial skills.
  • The continual balancing and delivery of resources with respect to daily operations, performances and public rentals ensuring revenue projections are being met.
  • Extensive knowledge of performance venues and best practices in talent acquisition and business practices of the industry.

Essential Functions:

Personnel Management : The incumbent is responsible for hiring and terminating, in conjunction with the Division Manager of Cultural Affairs and the CPRD Director. Monitors the day-to-day work of the ticket office staff, the Financial Services Coordinator, and the Technical Services Coordinator. Responsible for promoting training, assigns disciplinary action, prepares semi-annual and annual reviews, and conducts regular one on one meetings with all direct reports. Establishes annual goals in conjunction with staff. Reviews by weekly timecards for all staff (FTEs and Variable Hourly) and makes any necessary corrections. Coordinates work activities with other City departments or divisions. Acts as Division Manager of Cultural Affairs in Division Manager’s absence.

Fiscal Management and Reporting: Responsible for preparing and monitoring two-year budget cycles for review by the Division Manager of Cultural Affairs. Monitors approved budget to ensure the UCCC is on target and meeting revenue projections. Supervise revenue operations, working closely with the talent acquisition partner, ensuring the correct mix of performances are scheduled annually in conjunction with outside rentals regularly evaluating data on rates and fees for contract negotiation, forecasting UCCC progress regarding stated objectives and long-term planning.

Customer Service: Implements and ensures compliance with guidelines for excellent customer service. Periodically fields customer service complaints and follows through to find satisfactory solutions. Likewise passes along customer compliments to the appropriate staff member(s).

Assures high-quality customer service by evaluating the results of UCCC surveys, overall operations and service levels and provides reports to the Cultural Affairs Division Manager.

Planning: Responsible for preparing and implementing long range plans as well as provide leadership and input on specific project plans and relationships, i.e., the UCCC Master Plan, UC Backstage Stars, District 6, the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Arts Legacy Program. Assists in formulating and interpreting administrative policies of the UCCC.

Program Administration: Supervise the contract negotiation and rental agreements for performances at the UCCC. Works with C & E on marketing strategies for UCCC programming including defining budget; requesting marketing assets from artist; obtaining approval from artist on posters, press releases and media ads. Report to the UCCC Advisory Board monthly, review board minutes, create agenda and board packets for monthly meeting to send through City Clerks’ office. Assist the Cultural Affairs Division Manager in formulating and administering City and Service Policies and developing long range goals and objectives not only for the UCCC but for the Cultural Affairs Division as well.

Communication: Daily project and program coordination through face-to-face discussion and via phone and e-mail. Discuss issues that directly impact the operation of the UCCC. Periodically dealing with customer feedback, suggestions, and complaints. Planning as well as providing information and answering questions. Coordinating maintenance projects, providing information, training, and/or answering questions and working closely with marketing representatives and other divisions. Maintains liaisons with local interest groups, local universities, and regional and national professional organizations.

Problem solving and decision making: Work is defined by policies, principles, and department/division objectives. There is a choice in determining the process to accomplish the work. Limits are set by professional standards, available resources, and program objectives established by a higher management level. The general pattern, program, or system exists but must be individualized. The “what� is distinctly stated; the “how� is primarily determined by the incumbent’s own judgment. Implementation of best practices in the industry and development of engaging performances and public programs as compared to the market and industry.

Miscellaneous : Works a flexible schedule that may include weekends and evenings as needed. Serves as a liaison to the Backstage Stars, a non-profit fundraising and support group, and is a forward face for the UCCC attending and supporting many local group meetings and initiatives.

Supervisory Duties:

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions.
  • Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs.) and use of medium weight tools.
  • Assisting UCCC Technical staff with show/stage set ups where need, occasionally exceed 100 pounds.
  • Marginal to moderate hazards that are typically predictable in a performance venue setting.
