POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Youth Development Supervisor is responsible for the daily programming at a designated Branch. The position’s primary focus is delivering outcome-driven programs and services. Selects, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers. Oversees program development, delivery, and assessment, in conjunction with Branch Director. Purchases supplies within appropriate Branch budget. Communicates with parents/guardians. Oversees the delivery of positive guidance and discipline techniques to properly address member behavior issues. Manages Branch during Branch Director’s absence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Leadership:
- Supports and mirrors the culture, mission, values, and core beliefs of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale.
- Ensures delivery of high-quality programs and services that prepare youth and staff for success.
- Creates a dynamic, positive work environment for part-time staff members. Maintains close daily contact with direct and indirect reports. Provides coaching, training opportunities, redirection, and encouragement; helps develop skill set necessary for internal promotion.
- Oversees Club volunteers.
- Implements and ensures adherence to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale’s policies and procedures.
- Provides sound judgement and decision-making. Acts quickly in emergency situations.
- Fosters and maintains Club public relations.
- Encourages positive relationships between staff, and Club members and their families.
- Promotes an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity.
Management:
- Provides program oversight and ensures the implementation of youth programs and activities satisfy stated objectives.
- Exercises authority in problems relating to members; utilizes guidance and discipline plans.
- Appraises part-time staff performance. Provides regular, constructive feedback and redirection when necessary.
- Manages Branch program expenses. Works with full-time and part-time staff team to purchase program materials. Ensures good stewardship of funds.
- Ensures the timely completion and submittal of reports and projects.
- Monitors and ensures accurate tracking of Club programming and member invoicing.
- Supervises full-time and part-time staff in absence of the Branch Director.
Health & Safety:
- Ensures Branch remains safe, clean, and organized.
- Maintains Club equipment and property to ensure they stay in good working order.
- Uses positive guidance and discipline techniques to redirect member behavior issues.
- Utilizes active supervision techniques when working with Club members.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Required:
- High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years’ work experience in youth development or related field.
- General understanding of alcohol/drug abuse prevention and volunteer service field.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to Club’s changing needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and cooperative working skills.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite and be comfortable adapting to new technology.
- Ability to earn and maintain CPR and First Aide certifications.
- Maintains a valid driver’s license and meets eligibility requirements to drive Club vehicles.
- Flawless ethics and integrity.
- Safety oriented mindset.
Recommended:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Direct youth programming experience.
- Experience working in a non-profit setting.
