Description:
MIKEL is seeking an experienced Test Engineer to be part of our Dynamic SONAR Test and Evaluation team. The Test Engineer will provide expertise related to generating all aspects of submarine and surface ship underway test planning and coordination related to array calibrations, acoustic range testing events, and fleet exercises.
Responsibilities:
- At-sea and In-Plant test planning and execution
- Tactical reconstruction and truthing
- Participate in Operational Demonstrations/Evaluations of new APBs
- Technical writing
- Test report generation
- Naval ship waterspace management, navigation planning and coordination
- Coordinate with Squadrons and Type Commanders as related to exercise execution
- Pre sail briefing generation and presentation
- Test plan promulgation
- Rider Personnel coordination and planning
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience OR 15+ years of experience
- Minimum Secret Clearance
- Working knowledge of submarine Type Commander’s and Squadron’s assignment and control of waterspace management, and principles of prevention of mutual interference.
- Detailed understanding of underwater acoustics, passive and active SONAR theory, submarine SONAR arrays, and the ARCI program.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook effectively.
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability / willingness to write extensively, with sufficient clarity that documents are understood by civilian engineers, surface ship and submarine personnel.
- Ability and willingness to present briefs to US Navy leadership (up to Squadron Commodore).
- Ability and willingness to travel to Bahamas (AUTEC), Hawaii (PMRF), Johns Hopkins Applied Research Laboratory (Baltimore), University of Texas at Austin Applied Research Laboratory (Austin), and Progeny Systems (Groton) for Test and Evaluation meetings, and possibly support at sea testing.
Department of Defense secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
