Tenant and Landlord Counselor/Educator
Job description
Housing and Credit Counseling, Inc. (HCCI), a nonprofit organization in business since 1972, has an opening for a Tenant/Landlord Counselor and Educator.
Responsibilities involve providing one-on-one telephone (limited in-person) one-on-one counseling and delivering group classroom education to tenants, their advocates and landlords based on Kansas and Federal tenant/landlord laws, codes, and rental housing rules and practices. Must gather client data and create notes and action plan for input into counseling software platform during and upon completion of counseling sessions. Following up with a percentage of clients is also required.
You will enjoy the benefit of working with a supportive team. Counselors work to help people self-advocate. Grant-funded position. Requires learning and applying landlord/tenant laws and other rental housing information. TRAINING PROVIDED. Note - we do not provide mediation between landlords and tenants.
Must possess strength in oral and written communication skills. Correct spelling, grammar and the ability to write in complete sentences is a requirement. Professionalism, sound judgment, and patience are necessary. Technical skills and the capability to work in a team environment are essential. Being bilingual in English/Spanish and having a background in property management is a plus but optional.
While not routine, occasional evenings, weekends, and infrequent travel are required (roundtrip mileage reimbursed).
