Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This initial appointment will be for a 12-month period, requires a weekly commitment of 20 hours (Monday – Friday, no weekends), and will start during the summer 2023 semester, with optional paid training upon earlier acceptance (as an hourly graduate student). The administrative assistantship position is part of the Educational Technology Services (ETS) team with the College of Education, which is located in the Benjamin Building at the University of Maryland, College Park.

The responsibilities of this role include:
  • Provide 20 hours of shift coverage at the Tech Desk during normal business operations (9 am-4 pm, Mon-Fri) per semester.
  • Assist COE faculty, staff, and teaching assistants with classroom technology like computers, laptops, projectors, etc. when needed.
  • Take reservations for equipment and enter the information into a database.
  • Help with general administrative duties which includes inventory control and maintaining documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
This position is only open to Graduate Students currently enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient using both Microsoft Office programs and G Suite applications by Google.
  • Knowledge of Windows and Mac OS and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a customer-friendly attitude;

Preferences:
Preferences:
  • Previous experience in a customer service role is highly desired.
  • Familiarity with audio, video, and computer equipment is a plus, but not required.
  • Previous experience working in an academic environment.
  • Ability to work effectively and document thoroughly, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team and with a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students in a professional manner.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing tasks simultaneously while adjusting to changing priorities.
  • Graduation date of May 2024 or later is preferred.

Physical Demands
The candidate should be able to lift items of up to 20 pounds, respond to requests on multiple floors of the Benjamin building, and perform standard office clerical duties.
