POSITION:

Career and Technical Education- Teachers of Computer Technician, Microsoft Office, Technology-Computer Literacy, Building Maintenance, Carpentry, Electrical Installation, Welding, Automatic, Culinary Arts (approx. 15 positions)


Summer Rising 2023 will feature both in-person and remote learning opportunities for high school and HSE students. High School Summer Rising teachers will be expected to conduct their duties in-person at their Summer Rising Site and will be expected to teach students who are attending in-person and remotely or a combination of in-person and remote students.


LOCATION:

Adult Education sites throughout the five boroughs


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a Regular New York City License and New York State Certification in the respective content area as listed above (e.g. General Education, Special Education, English as a Second Language, Bilingual Education (all languages), Academic or Career/Technical Education content areas)


SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Applicants must be available for in-person assignment.
  • With respect to new applicants, preference will be given to staff who work in the school(s) within the Summer Rising affiliation.
  • Teachers with a Satisfactory or Overall Developing or higher rating in current Department of Education position for the past 3 years in which ratings are provided (does not apply to new teachers).
  • Teachers covered by Advance, no substantiated allegations of misconduct stemming from an OSI or SCI investigation or any misconduct that has led to the filing of disciplinary charges within the past three years.
  • Satisfactory record of attendance and punctuality.
  • Familiarity with non-traditional academic settings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and successful practice of varied instructional approaches including differentiated teaching strategies and group instruction.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must attend mandatory Professional Development during program hours. PD dates will be announced at a later time.
  • Plan and provide instruction in Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency, and/or Spanish High School Equivalency.
  • Prepare, maintain and submit records of registration, attendance and student performance.
  • Administer and score appropriate tests (must be TABE and Best Plus certified).
  • Complete and submit Adult Education paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate student tutoring activities.


WORK SCHEDULE:

  • July 5 2023- August 11, 2023 (up to maximum 200 hours)
  • Monday- Saturday, (Morning, Afternoon and Evening) 5 days| 4 days| 3 days | 2 days | 1 Day
  • Hours granted on a needed basis and times may vary based on site availability

Hours up to, but not limited to the approximate number of hours listed. Additional hours may be granted upon the approval of the hiring manager.


SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
