This position is a member of our Information Resources Division.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a part of the division’s Infrastructure Management team, our Network Administrator will play a key role in achieving TCEQ’s mission. You would use your skills and experience to:
- Support and maintain enterprise network systems and environments for the TCEQ.
- Provide customer service and support for agency personnel in the implementation, use, and the troubleshooting of network and telecommunications related issues.
- Analyze existing enterprise network-related processes and infrastructure. Recommend adjustments to ensure efficiency and security of the networks. Prepare statistics and reports on network utilization and availability.
- Oversee multiple server networks, router configurations, switches, protocol management, Local Area Network (LAN)/Wide Area Network (WAN) performance, and tuning activities. Coordinate preventative maintenance and the update of network devices.
- Participate in the design and implementation of LAN/WAN topologies, security infrastructure, telecommunications architectures, and protocols in conjunction with network control systems. Select, implement/install, maintain, monitor, and develop complex network systems.
- Conduct data network architecture reviews, risk assessments, and provide architectural recommendations for purchasing and implementation of telecommunications/network technologies applicable to business needs of the agency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Five years of full-time experience in LAN or WAN management which included two years in managing multiple LAN or WAN networks, telecommunications configurations, protocol management, and server performance tuning activities and performing highly technical duties, and/or supervising the implementation, maintenance, monitoring and enhancements of local area networks, PCs and peripherals.
OR
- An associate's degree from an accredited college or technical institute, including completion of 21 semester hours in telecommunications, computer science, or related field, plus four years of full-time experience in LAN or WAN management which included two years in managing multiple LAN networks, telecommunications configurations, protocol management, and server performance tuning activities and performing highly technical duties, and/or supervising the implementation, maintenance, monitoring and enhancements of local area networks, PCs and peripherals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with router configurations, switch configurations, and/or protocol management in an enterprise environment.
- Experience monitoring utilization of network appliances, including firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems/ Intrusion Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS), Spam Appliances, Web Filtering, and/or network switches or routers.
- Experience with network performance tuning and troubleshooting tools including protocol analyzers, network analyzing software, and/or cable testers/multimeters.
