This position is a member of our Water Supply Division.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a part of the Plan and Technical Review Section's, Corrosion Control and Disinfection Protocol Team, our Engineer will play a key role in achieving TCEQ’s mission. You would use your skills and experience to:
Engineer
- Protect public health by reviewing and evaluating engineering design and performance data for new or modified public water systems to ensure compliance with applicable regulations for the Water Supply Division (WSD) of the TCEQ.
- Review water system engineering plans and specifications submitted by licensed professional engineers and/or review exception requests submitted by public water system representatives. Review and evaluate design and performance data for compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Review projects submitted by prospective loan applicants of the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund and participate in the development of the list of ranked projects including data entry, data analysis, completion of physical deficiency forms, coordination of ranking with the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB), ranking of projects, delivery of the ranked list to the TWDB, maintenance of files related to project ranking, and preparation of financial, managerial, and technical assistance reports.
- Provide technical assistance to consulting engineers, city and county officials, water system owners and operators, agency staff, other governmental entities, and the public. Perform engineering evaluations to determine feasibility and conducts detailed engineering work for public drinking water projects.
- Conduct special projects including the provision of technical assistance and rule interpretation to less experienced personnel regarding plans, exception reviews and other related functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
ENGINEER I
Texas Professional Engineer's license.
ENGINEER II
Texas Professional Engineer's license plus one year of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure.
Qualifying work experience includes that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.
OR
Career Ladder Progression: One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer I.
ENGINEER III
Texas Professional Engineer's license plus two years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure.
Qualifying work experience includes that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.
OR
Career Ladder Progression: One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer II.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience reviewing or preparing public water system plans and/or specifications or requests for exceptions to 30 Texas Administrative Code - Chapter 290
- Experience preparing reports, correspondence, and recommendations
- Experience communicating technical information about public water systems

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES
This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Engineer I-III state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Engineer I-III series.
