General Information
The office of accounting technology within the office of Accounting Operations and Disbursements
is accepting applications for a
part-time System support assistant position to assist our team with duties related to accurate vendor data collection and vendor table maintenance, and general office duties.
- Part-time wage position with no benefits
- Hours are typically during normal business hours of 8am – 5pm, working on average 5-8 hours per day (no weekends required)
- Working an average of less than 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year
- On-campus position (not remote) in an office environment setting
Duties and Responsibilities
- Practice detailed vendor maintenance procedures to ensure accurate information is captured
- Perform accurate vendor data collection and vendor table maintenance to meet the needs of the University, PeopleSoft Finance and Cardinal systems
- Scan documents into an electronic filing system
- Run reports in a timely manner and ensuring data is accurate
- Process and place orders in the EVA system
- Provide professional, courteous service to our internal and external customers while maintaining a positive attitude and work ethic.
- Willingness to learn accounting concepts, principals, and business processes to reconcile budgets.
- Willingness to perform additional tasks as needed and provide team support.
- Understand and maintain the confidentiality of financial and personal data used according to university policy, state and federal law.
- Understand and abide by the Finance Office Ethics Statement, as well as any internal controls established by management.
Qualifications
Required:
- Demonstrated proficiency with computers, software applications and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Demonstrated typing and data entry skills
- Knowledge of administrative office practices and procedures
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service and people skills to provide a welcoming environment
- Ability to process detailed work with accuracy and efficiency
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information
- Ability to work independently, manage and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Must be available to work up to 29 hours per week during office hours of 8am – 5pm on a Monday through Friday schedule (5-8 hours per day, depending on schedule)
Preferred:
- Experience working with databases and/data entry
- Knowledge of accounting concepts, principals, and business processes.
- Ability to learn technology applications quickly
- Previous office experience
Condition(s) of Employment
This is a part-time wage position working an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
