Job description
Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS) is a self-supporting auxiliary that provides housing and dining services to approximately 15,000 undergraduate, graduate, and students with families who live in on-campus residential facilities (university owned/managed and Public-Private-Partnerships), as well as providing residential, retail and catering dining services for the campus community. SHDS also provides student support and conference housing services to the campus and general community. For more information about SHDS visit our website at http://www.housing.ucdavis.edu. Facilities Services is one of six major units within the Student Housing and Dining Services Department. Facilities Services oversees all of the daily maintenance, major maintenance, preventive maintenance, custodial services, capital projects, interior design, painting and Computer Services for the Department. Student Housing facilities encompass approximately 2 million gross square feet of property that provides food and housing for over 6000 students and retail food venues for the campus.

Job Summary
Under supervision of the Director for Operations for Student Housing and Dining Services and the Sustainability Manager, this position is responsible for supporting the department’s sustainability initiatives.
Develop and facilitate effective outreach programs designed to encourage students, staff and visitors to conserve energy and water and reduce waste within the residence halls, dining facilities, apartments, shops and offices. Educate dining patrons on sustainable food systems. Act as liaison with departmental colleagues from facilities, residential education, IT and dining services.

- Position may require working a non-standard work week, occasional overtime required. May be asked to work during UC or National holidays. Vacation usage may be limited during peak workload periods. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Experience:
- Experience within the areas of facility management, building systems, energy & water conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable food systems.
- Experience of integrating sustainable practices within maintenance operations.
- Computer experience to utilize various software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, database management programs; conduct research, create graphs and analysis, and various communications.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
- Organizational, planning and time management skills to manage a diverse range of responsibilities with frequent interruptions under competing deadlines.
- Writing skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, agreements, training documents, and performance evaluations.
- Leadership and decision-making skills to chair meetings, train staff, problem-solve and evaluate business needs.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to use tact and diplomacy to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Experience managing department wide projects and programs.
- Experience with LEED certification
- Experience with Energy Star benchmarking.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
- Critical thinking and analytical skills to conduct inductive, theoretical and practical research as well as applied problem-solving.
- Skill to evaluate and analyze data from a variety of sources and present statistical information in logical and understandable format.
- Leadership and decision-making skills to chair meetings, train staff, problem-solve and evaluate business needs.
- Skill to develop innovative solutions, attempt difficult and unfamiliar projects/assignments and respond with flexibility to requests for assistance in problem-solving and organizational development.
- Writing skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, agreements, training documents, and performance evaluations.
- Skill to coordinate projects and services with central campus units, outside vendors and internal customers to conduct effective planning, training, negotiations, problem solving and dispute resolution.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to use tact and diplomacy to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
