The Surgical Services Charge Manager shall act as the expert resource to the Director/Manager of Surgical
Services and for the hospital departments who manage inventory and process procedure charges. Will provide a broad perspective as it relates to the implementation of charge codes for procedures, supplies, and implants, the standardization of charge codes, updated charge code, and tracking of changes. Will work collaboratively to identify, assess, plan and implement regional and corporate revenue cycle strategies as it relates to the surgery department. Will work with the supply chain inventory team to ensure the surgery department has consistent visibility to the changes related to supplies and implants. Will manage the review of surgical data as it relates to the surgical services dashboard, which includes the data points to manage the operations and business of the department. Surgical Services Charge Manager will also provide expertise and be a mentor to new site managers/directors or those needing assistance to validate department charge capture. All duties will be fulfilled consistent with the mission of CHSPSC, LLC.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Lead surgical services, pain management and gastroenterology process improvement projects related to charge capture and inventory management. Including the extraction of the data, organization of the date and presenting the opportunity for improvement and gaining approval from the Senior Director of Surgical Services and Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations.
  • Approved projects - the Surgical Services Charge Manager will plan, initiate, manage, evaluate, and report the results of the project to the Senior Director of Surgical Services and Senior Vice President of Clinical Services.
  • Will collaborate and incorporate the projects developed by the revenue cycle and other corporate departments such as supply change into the process improvement strategy determined by the Senior Director of Surgical Services and Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations. The process improvement projects will be data driven projects which will be managed by the Surgical Services Charge Manager. Identified projects include standardization of surgery, pain and GI charge levels, transition of electronic record charging practices, teaching the billing specialist the charge processes for the variation of electronic records and manual billing workflow, revenue cycle audits, insurance defense inquiries, inventory system conversion, impact to preference cards, and research study related projects.
  • Working collaboratively with hospital CFO’s Assuming responsibility for the consultative development and implementation of programs leveraging hospital specific data to improve processes and identify missed opportunities.
  • Ensuring the integrity of project data by validating the accuracy of the data, monitoring the project progress, and reporting at the milestones and results/outcomes of the project. This may include the reorganizations of the project leveraging the plan, do, act, study methodology.
  • Is expected to visit with the hospital leadership and include the local surgery team and revenue integrity team to review, validate and determine opportunities for process improvement related to charge capture.
  • Is expected to serve as a mentor and expert resource person for specialty surgery programs or service line development.
  • Is expected to assist with strategic planning, market analysis, business development, and growth initiatives for CHS hospitals regarding surgical services programs.
  • Is expected to develop and cultivate collaborative relationships with corporate and hospital personnel, staff and physicians, to ensure engagement and improved operations.
  • Is expected to represent professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the personal, financial and medical or employment status of patients and staff of CHSPSC, LLC.

  • Excellent technical, management, and operational skills with clinical knowledge of surgical services at all levels of care within an acute healthcare setting.

Computer Skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite Tools and multiple web based communication application such as google meeting, Teams, Webex, Zoom, etc.

Certification:

  • Lean or Six Sigma, preferred

Education/Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Health Care Administration or other health/business related field, is required.
  • Technical knowledge of surgical services and the operating room/procedural environment.
  • Knowledge of computer systems, information systems, information management, and data analysis.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in varied disciplines of surgery.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in management.
  • Experience in multiple healthcare settings or healthcare system with multiple sites of operation preferred.
  • Experience in leading Surgery or Service line Process Improvement focused on value stream mapping, rapid improvement events, metrics analysis and financial outcomes reporting.
