Develops evidence-based and evaluation tested system-wide primary prevention strategies for the Cherokee Nation Community Health Promotion Program. Responsible for creation, oversight and evaluation of initiatives related to physical activity, nutrition and tobacco abuse prevention. Ensures deliverables to Cherokee Nation citizens are quality assurance tested and program specifics meet customer satisfaction standards.

Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Develops evidence-based health promotion strategies related to physical activity, nutrition and tobacco abuse prevention. Provides oversight of quality of deliverables to Cherokee Nation citizens. Ensures program content meets customer satisfaction standards. Provides qualitative and quantitative evaluation for program components. Performs and coordinates activities related to the development, implementation and day-to-day management of special projects. Provides technical assistance to community, school and agency partners as needed. Disseminates best practices and new research to program staff. Obtains data regarding the health status of American Indians, including but not limited to chronic disease data, behavioral risk factors and programs. Communicates health promotion needs regarding American Indian populations as it applies to program goals and objectives. Acts as a representative with various statewide partners, work groups, networks and/or task forces. Facilitates operation of the Wings Fitness Club including policy development, program design and evaluation. Determines the means, methods and materials for performing work for the program. Recommends to director hours of work for the program staff to implement strategies. Plans the work operation of physical activity initiatives for program staff. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 5-20 employees in the Primary Prevention Project. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training, employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding in disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university in Health Education or Public Health; or six years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

An additional four (4) years experience in a related field

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should have knowledge of Database software; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have CPR.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have knowledge of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention evidence-based practices. Must have experience working with statewide promotion task force.
