Job description
- Masters degree in administration/leadership, supervision, special education or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Must meet State of Michigan Director/Supervisor of Special Education program requirements. Individuals currently enrolled in an academic program leading to special education director certification will be considered based on their anticipated program completion date.
- Valid State of Michigan teaching certificate
- Minimum of three years special education experience in a position working directly with students such as a teacher, social worker, or psychologist.
- Prior experience in a special education administrator role preferred.
- Clear understanding of special education rules at the state and federal level.
- Able to articulate a vision and direction for the special education program.
- Outstanding organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with staff, parents, and students.
- Ability to supervise the instructional and special education programs in the District’s schools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Able to balance a heavy workload.
- Oversee the District’s Special Education needs, including:
- Education programs, services, and staff, including speech pathologists, social workers, and psychologist and Special Education Coordinator.
- Assist in the hiring and evaluation of special education personnel.
- Assure compliance of the district with all state and federal special education.
- Assure REEDs, IEPs, and METS, and MDRs are completed in a timely manner and with fidelity.
- Provide interpretation and guidance of compliance to state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to special education and ensure their implementation within the classrooms and district.
- Oversee the scheduling of special needs students to see that IEP programs and services are implemented with fidelity.
- Represent the district at GISD Special Education Director and committee meetings.
- Assist in the development and administration of the special education budget and follow business office standard operating procedures for the procurement and allocation of resources to meet the needs of special education students.
- Monitor and ensure that all Medicaid reporting is completed.
- Monitor district-wide K-12 special education programming for consistency/fidelity.
- Oversee and support district LINKS programming.
