POSITION
: SUPERVISOR OF ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS


LOCATION
: CENTRAL OFFICE – DEPARTMENT OF INSTRUCTION


POSITION SUMMARY
: Supervises and provides leadership in the development and implementation of the elementary Mathematics program. Observes, evaluates, and collaborates with school-based administrators in the evaluation of teachers. Acts as a resource to teachers in addressing the needs of all learners in achieving academic progress and success. Develops, creates, and curates curriculum that is aligned to content standards, incorporates best instructional and assessment practices that supports strong Tier 1 universal instruction. Develops collaboratively and implements appropriate professional learning that supports the implementation of the curriculum as intended and instruction that is culturally responsive, inclusive, and equitable.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
:


At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:

  • Must hold Administrator I endorsement by July 1, 2023.
  • Five (5) years of successful teaching experience required.
  • Successful school and/or central office experience in an administrative and/or supervisory capacity preferred.
  • Master’s Degree required in leadership, system improvement, and/or instructional design.


KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS), PK-5 elementary math curriculum, curriculum design and development, and assessment design.
  • Experience in successful school improvement programming, including data analysis, goal setting, strategy implementation, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize and promote equitable practices in all facets of education.
  • Understanding and ability to maintain rapport with people from all identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of equity including the ability to advocate for marginalized students.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, parents, and community members.
  • A deep understanding of Danielson’s Framework for Teaching, research-based strategies, and evidence-based practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and differentiated instruction for PK-5 learners.
  • Knowledge of Universal Screeners, the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA), Maryland Comprehensive Assessment (MCAP) program.
  • Knowledge of sound instructional practice that increases the student experience such as culturally responsive instruction, Universal Design for Learning, Inclusive Practices when measured in a variety of different ways.
  • Knowledge of instructional technology that enhances student learning, including Schoology, and knowledge of classroom use of instructional technology for student achievement.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide professional learning that supports the classroom experience and that meets the needs of adult learners.
  • Knowledge of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with teams of adults to develop and reach common goals.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others to sustain and meet program/system goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES
:

  • Collaborates with the Chief Academic Officer and the Director of System and Instructional Performance regarding school and system performance in elementary mathematics.
  • Provides leadership to staff in elementary mathematics program including, but not limited to curriculum and assessment design, instructional resources development, and implementation of appropriate content area assessments and organization of the CCPS curriculum management system.
  • Develops the required CCPS curricula and instruction, and assessments for elementary mathematics.
  • Analyzes PK-5 system data with the Chief Academic Officer, Director of System and Instructional Performance and the Data Coordinator and determine next steps in Calvert County.
  • Supports schools and teachers in instructional data-decision making using data from the universal screener, system-wide assessments, and state-mandated assessments.
  • Coordinates vertical articulation of the elementary mathematics program leading to the development of college- and career-ready students.
  • Collaborates with the Secondary Mathematics Supervisor and Special Education Supervisors in the development of Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports and interventions for mathematics and accompanying guideline for the implementation of a multi-tiered system of support.
  • Provides constructive and actionable feedback and support to teachers as an active participant in the teacher evaluation process.
  • Observes the class performance of elementary teachers and confers and consults with them regarding their performance, teaching ability, addressing of student needs, and their own professional development.
  • Works collaboratively with the Department of Instruction and Special Education to design and implement instructional programming to assure student performance and adherence to the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards.
  • Oversees, manages, and collaborates with other supervisors and data specialists to develop and manage assessments related to mathematics.
  • Provides supervision for the Mathematics Learning Specialist.
  • Plans and implements professional development and content area workshops for elementary teachers to include modeling of Tier 1 instructional strategies, lesson planning, and coaching of teachers.
  • Collaborates with other instructional and special education staff to design and implement instructional programming to ensure student performance and adherence to Maryland College and Career Ready Standards for Mathematics for all students.
  • Prepares an annual budget for elementary mathematics.
  • Represents Calvert County at regional and state meetings addressing the implementation of effective mathematics programming.
  • Coordinates text, digital licenses and software adoption consistent with effective elementary mathematics programming and county guidelines.
  • Manages critical content for Math student learning objectives.
  • Prepares recommendations for the Director of System and Instructional Performance regarding implementation of the elementary mathematics program.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports, plans and presentations for the state, Board of Education, and required meetings.
  • Keeps informed of the latest trends and research in addressing student learning, instructional methods, and classroom environments
  • Provides support and guidance to schools on school improvement efforts and ensures school improvement plans focus on the student experience within the classroom.
  • Supports the advanced learning program for elementary mathematics.
  • Assists in the screening and hiring of teachers.
  • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned.
  • Comes to work promptly every day.
  • Works flexible hours as necessary.
  • Works under stress and meets all deadlines.


OTHER JOB DUTIES

  • Performs related work as required or assigned by the Director of System and Instructional Performance.
  • Is available to work flexible hours at the Director’s request.
  • Is available to various student, teacher, and community groups for education-related purposes beyond the regular workday.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing walking, and periodic lifting.

FLSA STATUS
: Exempt


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
: Twelve (12) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the 2023-2024 salary schedule for Administrators and Supervisors. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.


EVALUATION
: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.


EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION
: As early as June 1, 2023, or on July 1, 2023
