Job description
The Supervisor of Coding is responsible for staff supervision, coordinating all coding functions, and reviews clinical documentation in accordance with documentation guidelines set forth by coding and regulatory agencies. Assists with the development of processes to ensure documentation compliance and educates staff and physicians, and is also responsible for overseeing the quality and accuracy of coded data.

Required Skills
- Must possess a substantial working knowledge of quality improvement activities related to Physician and Group Practices.
- Must demonstrate a completed knowledge of all procedural coding classification systems, such as CPT, HCPCS and ICD10 coding and medical terminology
- Possess strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal written and communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Must have a high level of professionalism and be able to interact with physicians, staff, etc.
- Must be detail oriented
Required Experience
Required:
- Must be a Certified Procedural Coder (CPC) or a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
- Must pass a coding certification exam sponsored by either the American Academy of Professional Coders or American Health Information Management Association
- Must maintain yearly renewal and CEU requirements.
- A minimum of 5 years prior supervisory experience in an outpatient hospital or physician setting, must be proficient with computerized coding and abstracting systems.
