Overview:

For over 45 years, Making Opportunity Count, Inc. (MOC) has been providing quality services to alleviate poverty in North Central Massachusetts by:

  • Improving the overall health and well-being of individuals and families,
  • Helping to improve and maintain residents’ self-sufficiency, and
  • Building a sense of community and collaboration among service providers and residents.

MOC is the designated community action agency for 30 communities in the North Central region of Massachusetts. MOC’s mission is to alleviate poverty, promote self-sufficiency and build healthy communities by creating opportunities, coordinating resources and advocating for social change. Last year, MOC provided services to 20,000 individuals.

MOC delivers a variety of services including child care, education, workforce development, nutrition, health, community services, asset development, energy conservation and housing & homelessness services.

DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES: Varying schedules and locations: (Leominster, Clinton, Fitchburg, Gardner, Winchendon, Athol)

  • Assist the Lead Teacher/Teacher in the day to day activities.
  • Assist (under supervision of the Lead Teacher/Teacher) in:
  • Preparation for class activities
  • Helping with meals (serving, eating with children, cleaning up etc.)
  • Assisting with circle time and supervising classroom activities.
  • Assisting children with clothing upon arrival, departure and going out to play.
  • Reading or telling stories to children.
  • Preparing and assisting with activities.
  • Help with field trips.
  • Lead outdoor and indoor activities.
  • Preparing games and teaching aids.
  • Assist in decorating room; changing pictures/bulletin boards
  • Give special and individual attention to children who need individual care or help.
  • Be flexible and able to adjust to the changing demands of staff, parents and children.
  • Perform other associated responsibilities/tasks as assigned.
  • Assist with bus schedules, bus monitoring, children’s arrival and departures as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Adaptability for caring for children.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work wit other adults and with children.
  • Willingness to learn new ways to work with and guide young children.
  • Willingness to be available on an “on call” basis.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Appreciation for various ethnic groups.
  • Fulfillment of all specified health and safety clearance requirements (physical, Monteux, MMR)
  • Ability to pass a CORI screening.
