Job description
Provide principal and proactive campus leadership and education regarding freedom of expression and campus policy in student and non-student-led campus activities and events. Respond to a variety of incidents of protected speech on campus as a member of the Student Affairs response team. Represent the Division of Student Affairs and the department in implementing and providing feedback on campus protocols regarding student freedom of expression. Independently identify and respond to student needs for programming, services, and crisis intervention regarding student activities and events. With the Center for Student Involvement Team, lead the digital communication strategy to promote student engagement, involvement, and leadership development through student organization activities and events. Provide expertise and leadership to students regarding interpretation and enforcement of campus policies such as time, place and manner regulations governing student activities and events, use of University properties, fundraising and event planning. Administer core functions of the department that support student organizations and programs including registration, advising, mentoring, policy interpretation and implementation, leadership development, program planning and management, problem solving, crisis intervention, mediation and referral.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in student affairs administration, student personnel, higher education administration, social work or related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Thorough knowledge and experience in leadership development, program management and advising college students and student organizations and implementing appropriate support and interventions. Knowledge of student development theory and issues for college students.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
- Demonstrated ability and political acumen to represent University positively in difficult and controversial matters and effectively interact with students, faculty, staff, parents, local community, media and general public.
- Thorough knowledge of First Amendment rights and responsibilities and freedom of expression issues on college campuses.
- Skill to make independent judgments and exercise discretionary authority in the administration of campus policy.
- Strong skills in listening, communicating with diverse audiences, problem solving, working collaboratively as part of a team, mediation, diplomacy, conflict resolution and confronting unacceptable behavior.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural humility; understanding of social justice, the dynamics of power and privilege, and social identities (e.g., sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, race, class, ethnicity, ability, religion, socioeconomic background, immigration status, size, and other identities) and experience working with diverse student populations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Master’s degree in student affairs administration, student personnel, higher education administration, social work or related field.
- Prior experience in marketing or social media
- Advanced knowledge and experience of project management regarding event management and communications.
- Demonstrated cultural competency skills and experience working with diverse student populations. Ability to model Principles of Community, work with diverse clientele and promote cross cultural competency to student organizations, employees, and student boards.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
- Advanced writing, analytical, and computer skills to develop and communicate policies, procedures, directives, correspondence, reports, agreements, publications and promotional materials.
- Advanced knowledge of campus and University policies and local, state, and federal regulations that govern the activities of students and student organizations.
- Demonstrated skill to recruit, train, supervise and evaluate student employees and to coordinate volunteer groups.
- Advanced knowledge of principles of risk management as they pertain to student activities and public events.
- Ability to utilize student organization software management systems to facilitate day-to-day department and student organization operations. Computer skills to use software such as email, voicemail, multi-line telephones, copiers, printers, scanners, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite and Word Press
