The Staff Data Engineer is responsible for leading, developing, and supporting our cutting-edge data solutions. As a Staff Data Engineer, you are responsible for working with Azure Data Services (Data Lake Storage, Data Factory, Functions, Logic Apps, etc.), designing and developing SQL scripts, writing stored procedures, and mentoring other engineers in implementing best practices to maintain high-quality code. The Staff Data Engineer serves as a role model to other engineers within the larger organization, providing technical leadership that influences our overall engineering practices.
The Staff Software Engineer reports to the Software Engineering Manager
Responsibilities
- Lead participation in the design and implementation of data load processes from disparate data sources into an Azure Data Lake and SQL Data Warehouse
- Guide the migration of existing processes and data from our on-premises SQL Server and other environments into an Azure Data Lake
- Explore and learn the latest Azure technologies to provide new capabilities and increase efficiency
- Ensure all existing and new data is created correctly and with proper documentation
- Read, write, and configure code for end-to-end service telemetry, alerting, and self-healing capabilities
- Lead and ensure the continuous improvement of code quality and development practices
- Mentor and work closely with other engineers to develop and document solutions for providing data to the enterprise
- May include the responsibility of having direct reports, conducting regular one-on-ones, with a focus on removing obstacles, providing coaching on career development, and giving both positive and constructive feedback
- Participate as part of a Tier-3 on-call rotation to support team-built software
Skills and Qualifications
- 6-8+ years of experience working with cross-discipline teams in data analytics and/or data engineering
- 6-8+ years of experience with SQL Server development or equivalent
- Expert-level experience with Azure Data Factory, SSMS, Snowflake, Databricks, Functions, Logic Apps, Blob storage, and DevOps
- Expert-level experience with version control using Git or TFS
- Expert-level experience working with our core family of technologies, such as Azure Data Services, Snowflake, PowerBI, SQL, Python, Kafka, PowerShell, DAX, JavaScript (React, Node, etc.), TypeScript, .NET, and C#
- Strong attention to detail and a sense of urgency
- Possess full-stack engineering qualities, capable of BI, Data, DevOps, Quality, and Software Engineer responsibilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Systems Engineering, Statistics or similar
