Under the supervision of the Accounting Manager, this role is primarily responsible for the preparation of journal entries, reconciliation and maintenance of general ledger accounts and preparation of specified accounting records for month end closing and analysis in addition to other general accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivables activities as required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Staff Accountant will:

  • Complete month end journal entries to support month-end and year-end closing. Month end reports (Including, but not limited to Commission Reports). Year-end 1099’s. Payroll information on company car usage. Support for month-end and year-end closing. Prepares and complete month end analysis and reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts as assigned. Performs special year-end analysis to support preparation of tax return.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and other reporting requirements (including, but not limited to accrued purchases and payable accounts). Prepare the annual audit schedules as required. Investigate and resolve account problems and issues as needed.
  • Files Monthly/Quarterly/Annual Sales Tax for all states.
  • Manage intercompany and vendor payments, review aging reports, identify and follow up with past due invoice payments and debit balance accounts.
  • Process weekly cash disbursements (Wire/Checks and ACH). Set up vendor templates for wires.
  • Perform all duties to back up to Accounts Payable, scanning, posting vendor invoices, resolving receiving/pricing issues with the buyers. (Medius software). Add new vendors to ERP system.
  • Perform back up for Accounts Receivable, billing and cash application processes.
  • Prepare other reports and assist in special projects and analysis as required or requested by supervisor.

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor of Accounting
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in general accounting.
  • Must have knowledge of US GAAP and basic accounting principles.

Characteristics and Skills:

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deal with ambiguity and competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills to effect change and recommend areas of improvement.
  • Strong understanding of balance sheet, variance analysis and account reconciliation is required. Understanding of variances related to purchases, 3-way match and overhead invoice processes.
  • Able to apply broad work experience and knowledge when analyzing complex problems. Must be able to consistently identify critical elements, variables and alternatives to develop solutions.
  • Strong computer skills – working knowledge of ERP system to resolve discrepancies in reports, reconciliations and other system related functions. Intermediate to Advanced Excel – including Pivot Tables and VLookup.
  • Able to communicate clearly and courteously with those who need to know of decisions/actions/problems. Requires excellent communication skills. Able to explain programs policies and procedures. Must be able to modify communication style both formal and informal to match the appropriate level of the audience targeted. Requires strong understanding of the impact of a message on the organization or customer. Able to write with the clarity and precision necessary for the work being performed.
  • Ability to work in a team and work in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Ability to effectively present information to various levels of an organization.

Essential Physical Abilities:

  • Ability to sit or stand at a desk using a computer 80% of the time.
