Job purpose

Position provides full accounting support and independent action to post entries, reconcile accounts and transactions, collect past due invoices, inquire and resolve short pays and deductions and prepare financial statements.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Prepare weekly and monthly general journal entries.
  • Daily reconciliation of bank accounts and preparation of daily cash balance summary.
  • Prepare weekly funding requirements from corporate accounts.
  • Prepare and file monthly sales and use tax reports and returns.
  • Participate in budget preparation and presentation.
  • Compile monthly financial statements for review and presentation.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve reconciling issues within 30 days.
  • Work with management to evaluate and explain variances and participate in the continuous improvement process to lower costs and minimize variances to standard.
  • Establish and measure actual results against variable budgets.
  • Print checks after payment selection is approved and maintain secure check stock inventory.
  • Add new members and vendors to Accounting system.
  • General AP / AR functions: Bank deposits, GL entries, Invoice processing, collections
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to review and perform the purchasing process.
  • Experience reconciling payroll entries and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization when researching out of balances.
  • Provide HR support
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • Three to five years experience with AP/AR/Payroll duties
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting
  • Prior experience with software such as Microsoft Dynamics, and POS type systems helpful
  • Thorough and current knowledge of accounting processes, procedures, guidelines, regulations and application.
  • Knowledge of internal controls, Familiar with Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance standards
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Advanced Microsoft skills in Excel,
  • Familiar with Access, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Excellent follow up, follow through and time management skills and persistence
  • Ability to influence others in the deliverance of timely and accurate data
  • Adept at responding to internal and external customer and vendor inquiries
  • Strong sense of urgency
  • Professional, accessible and calm demeanor
  • Familiarity with multi-departmental chart of accounts and retail/restaurant/club cost accounting
  • Experience with balancing transactions and reconciling accounts.

Working conditions

Most of working conditions are in a general office environment. Frequent interaction with plant personnel will require transition between warm and cold environments. Position is in a slaughter facility and person will observe and interact in an environment where cattle are slaughtered and personnel from the slaughter facility are working. Collection duties will involve working with customers to inquire and obtain payment of past due invoices and resolution of short pays and deductions.

Physical requirements

The position will not require heavy lifting or physically demanding tasks.

Direct reports

The position will have a supervisor role with one direct report.
