Reporting to the Director of Grant Development, the Senior Grant Writer is responsible for implementing the organization's grant-seeking activities. The Senior Grant Writer will work closely with program teams to develop grant proposals, conduct prospect research, analyze Request for Proposals (RFP) documents, research relevant studies and statistics, craft proposals, submit and track proposals, prepare grant reports, and ensure compliance with grant administration policies and procedures.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Health, or other related discipline
  • Minimum of five years’ experience with grant writing in a senior role
  • Federal, state, or local government grant experience, required
  • Experience writing grants for healthcare or human services, required
  • Excellent written communication skills with documented ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals
  • Experience accessing scholarly research and incorporating citations/statistics into proposals
  • Strong editing skills with attention to detail
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising in a senior role
  • Knowledge of grant administration systems, processes, and budgeting
  • Experience using online databases and other sources to locate information about potential funders
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software
  • A solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants
  • Ability to perform successfully within time constraints and meet deadlines
  • Highly organized with the ability to accurately prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Capacity to work independently in a self-directed manner, as well as in close collaboration with others
  • Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) prior to beginning employment


Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Researches, identifies, and qualifies prospective funding opportunities from public (government), private (philanthropic), and corporate sources that align with JFSLA’s mission, strategic plan, and funding priorities.
  • Assists Director of Grant Development in implementation of annual grant-seeking plan, tracking grant proposals and reporting deadlines, and ensuring compliance with grant administration policies and procedures.
  • Writes and assembles compelling proposals to foundations, corporate funders, and select government agencies, in partnership with the Director of Grant Development and the program management team.
  • Represents the organization in meetings with foundation and government representatives, coordinates funder site visits when requested, and participates in relevant grant discussions and meetings.
  • Ensures that donation acknowledgement letters are sent to foundation funders in a timely manner and ensure proper follow up with declined requests.
  • Updates grants management database and project calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports.
  • Assists with the preparation of required progress and final reports, including compiling necessary information from program, evaluation, and finance staff.
  • Ensures administrative compliance with the terms of all grants, including accurate and timely preparation of grant reports.
  • Maintains internal grant tracking systems and historical records.
  • Works with Director of Grant Development and program management team to prepare customized service reports and program updates for state and local officials.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
