Sr. Engineer, Electronic Hardware, Optical Prototyping
Location: Santa Clara/San Jose, CA
Join Ayar Labs and work with other talented engineers, building next generation optical IO that will change how computation is done!
You will build prototype systems, bringing together advanced packaging and our ground-breaking integrated photonics chip, including complex digital and analog electronics.
You will bring to life new capabilities, fulfilling the vision of world-class photonics, analog mixed-signal, and digital designers. The primary job focus is in designing, building, and debugging systems that are at the cross-section of hardware and software. You will be involved in silicon bring-up and system level validation of custom ASICs, as well the design of novel hardware systems.

You will bring to life new capabilities, fulfilling the vision of world-class photonics, analog mixed-signal, and digital designers. The primary job focus is in designing, building, and debugging systems that are at the cross-section of hardware and software. You will be involved in silicon bring-up and system level validation of custom ASICs, as well the design of novel hardware systems.
Basic:
- BS in electrical engineering, computer engineering or equivalent
- 3 years of experience with electronic hardware validation
- Experience bringing up custom ASICs and developing interface code
- Creativity in troubleshooting; ability to work around hardware and software problems
- Understanding of analog circuits, analog/digital converters, and digital chip-interface protocols (SPI, etc)
- Great programming skills; proficiency with Python, ability to develop a code base as part of a team
- Familiarity with analog and digital circuit design tools: Verilog, IC schematic design
- Enthusiasm to learn new things and take on challenging goals
- Experience with circuits test instruments: oscilloscopes, power supplies, meters, etc.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, optical, packaging)
Preferred:
- Desire to work in a fast-paced startup pushing the frontiers of technology
- Experience taking a hardware system through a full cycle: architecture, design, fabrication, bringup, debug
- Great communication skills
- Familiarity with schematic capture and PCB layout techniques
- Experience with RF systems and measurements
- Familiarity with fiber optics and optical test instruments: polarization controller, spectrum analyzer, etc.
- Familiarity with integrated photonics: modulation, detection, propagation, etc.
The pay range for this position is $120K to $165K
