Job Description:
The Senior Control Systems Design Engineer at Solar Turbines is responsible for the detailed operating logic for Solar’s gas turbine and electric motor drive packages integrated into new equipment sales order projects. The position carries a diverse scope of responsibilities, including instrumentation schematics, PLC control logic and HMI display applications. The Sr Design Engineer utilizes a wide array of industry and Solar developed tools to solve project problems to meet unique customer requirements. The successful candidate must possess a systems level approach to problem solving and design.
This position is highly visible within the business and is required to interface with several internal organizations including Business Development, Business Management and manufacturing. This position also provides opportunities for direct contact with the external customer at their facilities. The position provides support for commissioning and the resolution of safety critical risk assessments.
The position is part of an Engineering Value Stream comprised of multiple engineering disciplines and offers a great opportunity to develop a deep network with turbomachinery design and package assembly & test. The ability to work well with a team, attention to detail with a focus on quality, and the drive to deliver on time is important to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience
  • Experience with the basic theory, design, and operation of industrial control system applications
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings P&ID’s, electrical schematics, single line diagrams
  • Working knowledge of PLC programming logic
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with RSLogix or Studio 5000 software and HMI display software applications
  • Knowledge of Turbomachinery system applications, design, and operations including concepts of power generation, gas compressors, gas processes, and surge controls systems
  • Knowledge of various hazardous area classifications and process control
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary for this role ranges from $ 108,598.00, to $162,898.00. Typical starting salaries for this role range $108,598.00 - $128,960.00. Actual salary will be based on experience. The total rewards package, beyond base salary includes:

Summary Pay Range:
$98,726.00 - $177,706.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
