Overall Objectives of Position The Sports Program Assistant is responsible for assisting with planning and developing a comprehensive sports program to meet the needs of the Tribal community. The Sports Assistant shall not participate in any sport/activity in which he/she assist in or for which he/she is receiving financial compensation, i.e. serving as coach or team member. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. The Sports Program Assistant is expected to perform all duties and responsibility necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs. The Sports Program Assistant is expected to live the Purpose and Values of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and will go beyond the call of duty.

Primary Responsibilities of the Sports Program Assistant

  • Assists with the development of new sports programs, improving/enhancing existing facilities and programs, promoting sports in the community (personal contact, newsletters, etc.), and distributing promotion information to entire community.
  • Assists in initiating community awareness campaigns to acquaint community members and employees with available sports.
  • Assists in preparing, maintaining, and publicizing a monthly schedule of events.
  • Assists in collection, analysis, and distribution of information pertaining to all phases of sports.
  • Attends meetings as deemed appropriate.
  • Assists with sports camps, sports clinics, sports leagues, sports tournaments, including but not limited to NAYO, NASA tournaments, concessions, pool events, and gym events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the appropriate person has prepared Recreation fields, grounds, vehicles, and equipment, making certain that they are in a clean, orderly, and operable condition prior to events.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities of the Tribal Sports Program.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of equipment and supplies as needed.

Education/License/Certification and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess First Aid Certification, including CPR and Life Saving, or obtain certification within ninety (90) days of official date of hire in this position.
  • Must possess certification of “Mandatory Reporter Training” or obtain during the first week of employment.
  • Must possess “ServSafe Certification” or obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.

  • Ability to understand and complete written and verbal instructions.
  • Must possess character that earns the confidence of program participants and community, and minimizes public criticism or complaints.
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, and twist for an extended period of time as well as climb, lift, hold, and move objects weighing a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record according to Tribal insurance guidelines.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development and other events.
  • Ability to adequately and successfully perform all duties and responsibilities of this position.

COMPLAINTS ABOUT RECRUITMENT PROCESS:

Complaints about the recruitment or selection process for employment should be directed in writing to the Human Resources Director of PCI Tribal Government.

An applicant who disagrees with any issue related to the application or hiring process may submit a letter to Human Resources within ten (10) calendar days from the date the applicant knew or should have known that an adverse hiring decision had been made.

Human Resources will provide a written response within fourteen (14) calendar days informing the applicant of any administrative remedy to be provided. The decision of the Human Resources Director shall be final and not subject to further administrative appeal. Any applicant who has exhausted all administrative remedies may be eligible to file a complaint with the TERO Office.
