Required:
- Valid MI Teaching Certificate in Special Education
- Valid MI Teaching Consultant certificate
- Masters degree
- 3 years of successful professional teaching; 2 of which in Special Education

POSITION DESCRIPTION
SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER CONSULTANT
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree.
2. Michigan Special Education Teacher Certification.
3. Michigan Teacher Consultant certification.
4. 3 years of successful professional teaching; 2 of which were in Special Education.
5. Experience in consultation, behavior assessment, and developing / implementing positive behavior support programs preferred.
6. Must be computer literate – able to efficiently use word processing, spreadsheets, and data base applications for testing, recording, and reporting purposes.
7. Ability to use the school management information system.
8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Assessment/Diagnosis
1. Assist the School Psychologists in compiling data
2. Assist the School Psychologists with interpreting diagnostic findings and relaying them to school personnel, other concerned professional personnel, parents, and when appropriate, the student.
3. Assist the School Psychologists with assessments and behavioral planning as needed.
4. Assist the School Psychologists with conducting evaluations and writing reports for learning disabilities evaluations as deemed appropriate.
5. Attending staff meetings, staffings on students, IEP's and other meetings/activities as directed.
6. Assumes responsibility for confidentiality of information regarding students, staff and program.
B. Consultation
1. Assist with providing instructional strategies for therapeutic intervention to classroom personnel as management options in dealing with behaviors of pupils, implementing the consultation model of assessment/diagnostic services within programs assigned.
2. Assist with providing follow-up (direct or indirect) responsibilities with students, staff or parents as identified in the IEP or mutually agreed upon within the program served.
3. Assist with obtaining resources within administrative guidelines, which are necessary to implement the instructional program working in conjunction with the team approach for planning.
5. Assist with communicating with inter - agencies as appropriate and needed.
6. Assist with coordinating assessment/diagnostic needs in conjunction with the district representative.
7. Report directly to the supervisor any concerns, questions, or conflicts regarding a student, the program or working situation.
C. Records/Reports
1. Assist the Director of Special Education and Special Education teachers with collecting and providing necessary and administrative data for required reports meeting time lines.
2. Assist the Director of Special Education and Special Education teachers with providing special education administration with necessary information required for monitoring activities.
3. Assist the Director of Special Education and Special Education teachers with maintaining working files for caseloads.
D. Other
1. Assume other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Pay: $41,010.00 - $71,358.00 per year
