Position/Title: Game Developer / Software Developer
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Location: Virginia Beach, VA (hybrid, remote)
Start Date: Immediate
Summary:
Vectrona is developing cutting-edge, game-based, modeling and simulation systems to help train current and future warfighters in service and joint environments. We require a seasoned professional Game Developer with 5-10 years of experience to support development, deployment, and operation of training and simulation systems. Candidates should be familiar with the game development process, having taken at least one project from concept through release. They will take ownership of key features of the application, driving them from research through implementation using software engineering best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create robust software modules as necessary to meet customer needs.
- Act as an applied researcher; breaking interesting software, simulation, and game development problems into manageable components, researching solutions, and creating production ready implementations.
- Mentor junior members of the software team, providing code reviews and guidance.
- Assist with proposal writing and development.
- Stay engaged with the Serious Game and Mixed Reality communities, tracking advancements, and presenting at relevant conferences.
- Reports to the Director of Serious Games and Simulations.
Education/Degree (minimum): BS in computer science, computer engineering, modeling and simulation engineering or 10-years equivalent practical experience.
Experience:
- C# or C++ experience/Object-Oriented programming (Data Driven Design experience and familiarity with Python, JavaScript is a plus)
- Experience with Unity, Unreal or other modern 3D game engines
- Experience with version control platforms including SVN, Git and Perforce
- Experience with cloud services (AWS / Azure) including data storage, data retrieval, authentication of users, and machine learning services
- Experience with multiplayer game development in Unity, Unreal or other modern 3D game engines a plus
- Experience working with AR/VR/MR hardware and platforms (Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, Microsoft HoloLens, Magic Leap, ARCore, ARKit, MRTK) a plus
- Experience with mobile development (iOS / Android) a plus
- Experience with Microsoft UWP, WPF and XAML based application development a plus
- Experience with speech recognition systems and NLP a plus
Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience working with small teams and taking on many hats and responsibilities.
- Ability to prioritize taskings and work effectively and efficiently with minor supervision.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor communications across all levels of stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of spatial and other data structures common to game development.
- Understanding of the physics, linear algebra and other mathematics commonly used in graphics and game programming.
- Basic understanding of the asset implementation pipeline including asset implementation, IK rigs, optimization practices, to lighting.
- Highly motivated, self-starter.
- 10-20% CONUS travel may be required

Pay: $90,000.00 - $106,000.00 per year
