At Stony Brook Medicine, our social workers are valuable members of our team, who provide empathic care to our patients, their families and visitors, with the highest degree of integrity and respect.

We are currently expanding our team of social workers to include intake coordinators for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic. Due to great demand for psychiatric and behavioral health services, we aim to add experienced social workers to assist our team in appropriately triaging Child & Adolescent patients to the health care provider or situation that best fits their needs as well as identify barriers that might obstruct their abilities to engage in treatment.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, knowledge and understanding of patient care, and effective responses to changing patient needs, decisions-making based on ethical principles and adhering to our high standard of excellence. We are looking for clinicians who are comfortable treating children and families of diverse backgrounds with a commitment to maintaining an inclusive care environment.

Duties of Intake Coordinators may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Engaging patients and families into treatment utilizing motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Assessing patients’ needs, safety and establishing a working diagnosis.
  • Coordinating care with new patient coordinator to ensure that patients are assigned to a clinician who can meet their specific needs.
  • Identifying barriers to treatment and coordinating services as appropriate.
  • Intake assessments take place both in person and via telehealth.
  • As we are an academic medical center, appropriately referring patients to research coordinators.
  • Intake coordinators may carry a caseload for both individual and group therapy modalities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

MSW from an accredited Social Work Education School. New York State LCSW licensure. R licensure required. Experience in crisis intervention. Experience working with Electronic Medical Record keeping. Knowledge of DSM V diagnosis criteria and ICD codes.

Preferred Qualifications:

SIFI certified. Experience providing care via telehealth videoconferencing platform. Four (4) years post Master's experience. Experience providing evidence-based psychotherapy and curriculum-based group and family psychotherapy. Three (3) years of experience in a community mental health care setting. Bilingual care clinicians are encouraged to apply.
