Slitter Operator- 3161
Duration: 12+ months with possibility of Extension or can turn in to an FTE role
Location: 1950 Pratt Blvd, Elk Grove Village,IL|60007
Shift: Monday - Friday 12 hours 5:45am – 6:15pm

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate Core Cutting and Multiple Roll Wrapping Department Machines

• Cut cores to size for slitter, ensuring proper supplies of cores for Slitting Jobs.

When Roll Wrapping –

• Weigh plastic rolls and label properly.

• Wrap Rolls according to Job Order specifications.

• Palletize rolls and deliver to finished goods area.

• Follow GMP’s, PRP’s, productions SOP’s, 5S and DTM.

• Back up to Slitter Operator for break relief.

• Paperwork and data entry in Shop Floor.

• Must participate in SPS Pillar Teams as needed, including LCE /5-star Participation.

• Responsible for quality checks prior to running jobs, includes read Cust Specs.

• Conduct final inspection of rolls according to Final Inspection procedure

• Ensure that the Allergen Control requirements are applied during slitting of Combo jobs

• Report all unsafe acts and conditions to the department leads and managers immediately.

• Responsible for quality and safety and safe operational procedures.

• Regular, consistent attendance and punctuality are essential to the job.

• Report all Food Safety violations to management.

• Follow all safety rules.

• Cover vacant positions on other shifts as needed.

• All other duties assigned by manager.

• Performs DTM prior to begin working in the Machine.

• Help to Perform PM on Machine when gets on schedule.

• Enter DATA in Quality Companion when require.

• Issue a Work Order when Machine or Parts are Required, follow MVP Procedures.

• Communicate pertinent matters of the machine or job with the Operator at Shift Change.

Other duties as assigned.

Participate in Sonoco’s Performance System (SPS) activities as required – 5Star, Pillar Teams, Audits, Near Misses, etc.

Regular, consistent attendance and punctuality are required and expected for job performance.

Read, Speak and Write English

Data Entry

Must be able to use tools.

Pallet Wrapping

Forklift & Hand Jack Operation

Overhead Hoist System Operation

Must be able to read ruler/Metric or Standard

Educational Requirements:

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent job experience

Training Requirements:

Review Company (Corporate and Divisional) policies and procedures

Personal Safety

GMP ,5s, Sweet Sheet, and DTM Training

Food Safety and QUALITY Systems requirements and procedures

Explanation of departments and their roles

Job Specific Training

EFI Procedures, codes, and customer specifications

Safety procedures. lifting and bending. Forklift Certification.

Inspection of rolls for visual defects prior to wrapping. blow air on sides.

Understanding the order for shipping. how many rolls on a pallet, special instructions

Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Daily housekeeping procedures prior to start working.

Physical, Mental and Visual Demands:

Moderate to heavy physical effort performing duties/work activities; lift to 50 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment required.

Good Communication Skills

Must be able to stand or walk for up to 12 Hours.

Continuous Mental/Visual attention required.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required.

Salary: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
