St. Andrew’s Community Resource Center, a ministry of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, seeks to transform lives through Christ’s love by equipping families and individuals with resources that lead to housing and employment stability.

We are currently seeking a dependable and caring Shelter Associate for St. Andrew’s Family Shelter, located in Hugo, Minnesota. The Shelter Associate is responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for families experiencing housing insecurity and working with the shelter team to provide coverage of required staff hours.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Create a welcoming, safe environment for families who are unhoused
• Enforce shelter policies and procedures with guests and volunteers
• Train and orient volunteers
• Light housework
• Other duties as requested or assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

• Human Services degree or equivalent work experience
• 2 years of experience in human services or a closely related field
• Experience in nonprofit community based programming serving families in poverty and crisis

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Effective relationship management skills to build relationships with families
• Problem solver with attention to detail
• Ability to be creative and flexible in responding to changing priorities and emerging needs
• Working knowledge of the causes and impacts of living in poverty
• Skill in recognizing and maintaining confidential information
• Skill in expressing empathy for others
• Oral and written communication skills
• Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues
• Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner

Work Schedule:

Part-time, approximately 12-18 hours per week. Weekend availability is required. Required shifts will vary based on shelter needs. Specific schedule will be determined in collaboration with Supervisor and there is no minimum guarantee of hours. Some holidays will be required.
