JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Sexual Assault (SA) Advocate (Language Requirement: Bilingual in English and Spanish)

POSITION LEVEL: Direct Service

SUPERVISED BY: SART Program Manager

ABOUT HAVEN:
HAVEN is a catalyst for individual empowerment and societal change: advocating for those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault or human trafficking and working to end gender-based violence. HAVEN has been serving adults and children affected by domestic and sexual violence for over 40 years. At HAVEN, we use a trauma-informed, client- centered service model, which focuses on the client setting the direction, establishing their own goals and objectives and is empowered to make their decisions.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
To ensure justice and create a more compassionate and streamlined response, service providers must intervene in a way that speaks to the context of each victim's circumstance and respects the unique roles of the different professionals involved in responding to sexual assault. Over the years, communities have developed a team approach with just those goals in mind. Multidisciplinary teams, often called SARTs (sexual assault response teams), partner together to provide interagency, coordinated responses that make victims' needs a priority, hold offenders accountable, and promote public safety. The Sexual Assault Advocate helps survivors through the maze of community services available to them and uses the experiences of survivors to improve those services.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs intermediate professional work assessing client safety needs and risk factors, provides supportive services to individuals at risk and their families, advocacy, referrals, and empowerment services. The Sexual
Assault Advocate will be working with survivors of sexual assault by providing/offering support through the forensic and court processes. The SA Advocate will work closely alongside the SART, Advocacy, Legal, and Crisis
Response/Shelter Programs in providing services and support.
This position IS NOT subject to mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse because: 1) This position provides services to adults only and so is not subject to mandated reporting under CANRA OR 2) This position does not present in schools as part of a child abuse prevention program. Such a report, including sharing identifying information with a mandated reporter position at HAVEN, without following "release of confidential information" policies is a breach of confidentiality and can result in termination.
