Job Summary
Servers provide patrons with food and beverages in a positive and friendly manner. Delivers information to help food and beverage selections. Presents ordered choices in a prompt and efficient manner. Maintains dining ambiance with an enthusiastic attitude.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Check with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems.
- Collect payments from customers.
- Write patrons' food orders; enter orders into computers for transmittal to kitchen staff.
- Prepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes.
- Check patrons' identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages.
- Serve food or beverages to patrons and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required.
- Present menus to patrons and answer questions about menu items, making recommendations upon request.
- Clean tables or counters after patrons have finished dining.
- Prepare hot, cold, and mixed drinks for patrons, and chill bottles of wine.
- Roll silverware, set up food stations or set up dining areas to prepare for the next shift or for large parties.
- Inform customers of daily specials.
- Stock service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware, and linens.
- Explain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods.
- Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware.
- Remove dishes and glasses from tables or counters; take them to kitchen for cleaning.
- Assist host or hostess by answering phones to take reservations or to-go orders, and by greeting, seating, and thanking guests.
- Perform cleaning duties, tidying up server station or checking and cleaning bathroom.
- Bring wine selections to tables with appropriate glasses and pour the wines for customers.
- Perform food preparation duties such as preparing salads, appetizers, and cold dishes, portioning desserts, and brewing coffee.
- Escort customers to their tables when hostess not available.
- Garnish and decorate dishes in preparation for serving.
- Fill salt, pepper, sugar, cream, condiment, and napkin containers.
- Describe and recommend wines to customers.While this is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current job, management reserves the right to revise the current job or to require that other or different tasks be performed when circumstances change, (e.g., emergencies, changes in personnel, workload, rush jobs or technical developments).
Physical requirement: Servers are on their feet most of the time and often carry heavy trays of food, dishes, and drinks. The work can be hectic and fast paced. During busy dining periods, they are under pressure to serve customers quickly and efficiently. They must be able to work well as a team with kitchen staff to ensure that customers receive prompt service.
Tip Minimum Wage:
As a Server for Grazianos’ your current hourly wage paid to you per hour is based on the tipped hourly rate per Florida Law.
Effective September 30th, 2022, Florida’s current minimum wage for non-tipped is $11.00 and for tipped employees is $7.98. FL Constitution, Art. X, Sec. 24(c). This amount is schedule to change annually by $1.00 per hour until the minimum wage will be $15.00 per hour by September 30, 2026.
Until 2026, the minimum wage rates will follow the annual increases stipulated below:
- September 30, 2023 – non-tipped $12.00 & tipped $8.98
- September 30, 2024 – non-tipped $13.00 & tipped $9.98
- September 30, 2025 – non-tipped $14.00 & tipped $10.98
- September 30, 2026 – non-tipped $15.00 & tipped $11.98
Florida state law allows the employer to claim a Tip Credit of $3.02 an hour as part of an employee’s tips towards its minimum wage obligations.
Due to Florida state law, all organizations must inform employees regarding the Tip Credit for employers. With that being said this written notice satisfies the requirement to inform all new and current employees that pertains to this classification.
