Job description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in Environmental Health Sciences or a related field,
And
Experience:
The equivalent of two years of full-time experience performing a full range of environmental health activities.
Certificate:
Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist issued by the California State Department of Public Health.
Additional certification for specific program responsibility may also be required.
License: Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
NOTE: The level and scope of the following knowledge and abilities are related to duties listed under the "Examples of Duties" section of this specification.
The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:
- Basic principles of physical, biological and social science applied in environmental control.
- Functions and operations of related agencies and County organizations.
- State and local regulations governing environmental health.
- Standardized methods and techniques of investigation, inspection, and resolution of unsanitary conditions.
- Research and statistical methods.
- Computer software applications.
Ability to:
- Provide guidance and instruction regarding environmental health matters to other environmental health personnel, State and local agencies and the general public.
- Interpret State and local rules, regulations and laws, consistent with departmental policy within assigned program areas.
- Establish effective working relationships with others.
- Write factual, concise technical reports.
- Read and interpret construction plans and blueprints.
- Write and communicate effectively.
- Operate a personal computer.
