Senior Re-Entry Specialist
The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) is seeking a qualified professional for the position of Senior Re-Entry Specialist (Specialist) to work as a member of the Program Services team at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction located in Billerica, MA. The Specialist will be responsible for supervising case managers by overseeing the development of written re-entry plans and ensuring quality control over all re-entry-related planning and practices. This position reports to the Chief of Treatment and Re-Entry Services. The shift hours for this position are flexed between the hours of 9:00a.m. to 9:00p.m. and the Specialist will also be required to work 1:00p.m. to 9:00p.m., as needed by management. The days off are Saturday/Sunday. The shift hours and days off are subject to change based on operational needs and at the discretion of management. This is a full-time, non-exempt position covered under a collective bargaining agreement (NEPBA, Local 525).
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Conducting routine audits of re-entry planning work;- Ensuring collaboration between case managers and Family Services staff in the development of written family reunification plans;
- Coordinating and facilitating meetings of a Multidisciplinary Re-Entry Planning Team;
- Collecting and maintaining re-entry-related data;
- Conducting risk/needs assessments and other intake-related questionnaires;
- Composing individualized treatment/service plans;
- Providing general case management;
- Educating the incarcerated population about the benefits/entitlements to which they are afforded;
- Assisting the incarcerated population with voter registration and in obtaining personal documents, such as state identification cards and birth certificates;
- Facilitating/leading psychoeducational and soft skills programming;
- Forging partnerships with community-based organizations, state agencies, and other external stakeholders;
- Attending community roundtable and task force meetings;
- Serving as a liaison to specialty courts; working closely with probation officers to facilitate information-sharing to achieve appropriate diversionary measures;
- Advising the Chief of Treatment and Reentry Services and the Assistant Superintendent of Program Services on treatment and reentry-related needs;
- Working with the Assistant Superintendent of Program Services and the Sheriff’s Executive Team to highlight trends among the incarcerated population to inform and shape public policy;
- Performing and/or assisting in other duties as required by the Chief of Treatment and Re-Entry Services and the Assistant Superintendent of Program Services.
Working Conditions:
Individual may encounter verbal and physical abuse from offenders while working in a correctional facility and will be required to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress. May be required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, work alone in an isolated area, lift and carry heavy objects up to 100 lbs., and may be exposed to adverse weather conditions.
Working in a correctional facility on weekends, nights and holidays;- Required to work over eight (8) hours depending on the operational and inmate programing needs of the facility;
- Direct contact with inmates/detainees in a secure correctional setting;
The individual selected for the position of Senior Re-Entry Specialist shall be cognizant of the confidential and sensitive nature of working in a law enforcement agency and must comply with all institutional rules regarding safety and security.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services; Sociology; Psychology or another relevant field;
- Master’s Degree and prior supervisory experience preferred;
- At least five (5) or more consecutive years of documented case management experience. Prior experience working in a correctional setting or with justice-involved individuals preferred;
- Strong knowledge/access to services/benefits available to incarcerated individuals from community-based organizations, as well as state and federal agencies;
- Experience building partnerships and working with a variety of community organizations preferred;
- Strong knowledge and ability to assist incarcerated individuals suffering from mental illness and substance use disorder, as well as those with significant trauma histories;
- Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment; multi-task, keep accurate records and generate timely reports;
- Exceptional interpersonal, writing, communication, organizational and time management skills are required;
- Excellent interviewing and assessment skills;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
- Must have own transportation.
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Must have an active valid driver’s license, the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts and pass a criminal background check.
